Scorpio mythology, i.e., the mythology of Scorpio the Scorpion, 8th among 12 zodiac signs is linked with Scorpio killing Orion, a Greek giant supposed to be the best hunter and the most handsome man in the world.

According to Greek mythology Orion who was a charm for females, had such a giant size that he could stand at the bottom of the sea and still his head would stay above water. Once Eos offered him a one night stand with her and he obliged but later belittled Eos by saying he won her as he was the best hunter, be it of animals or of females. He also talked big of hunting and killing all the animals on earth.

Apollo - God of the Sun and the guardian of herds - requested Gaia to send a giant scorpion with impenetrable armor to sting Orion until he was dead.

After this the myth bifurcates into two popular variations. One says that the Scorpion succeeded in doing the needful and killed Orion. The second one says that Orion tried to escape through the sea route but was shot dead by Artemis.

As Scorpio battled with Orion, the fight turned so fierce that even Zeus took a note and as a token of his appreciation, raised the scorpion to heaven. Artemis requested the same for Orion too which Zeus agreed upon and gave Orion a place in the heaven too, mainly to serve as a warning against ego boosting in the mortals.

This is how the Scorpio mythology, i.e., the mythology of Scorpio the Scorpion, 8th among 12 zodiac signs goes according to what the Greek legend says. The constellation lies between those of Libra and Sagittarius, Libra lying to its west and Sagittarius to the east.
