Leo constellation in the zodiac lies in between those of Cancer and Virgo, Cancer lying to its west and Virgo to the east. Leo contains many bright galaxies, of which Messier 65, Messier 66, Messier 95, and Messier 96 are the most famous, the first two being part of the Leo Triplet.

The Leo Ring, a cloud of hydrogen and helium gas left over from the Big Bang, is found in orbit of two galaxies found within Leo constellation.

Leo contains many bright stars named Regulus (alpha Leonis), the lion's heart; Denebola (beta Leonis); and gamma1 Leonis (Algieba). Quite a few other fainter stars are also there like delta Leo (Zosma), theta Leo (Chort), kappa Leo (Al Minliar al Asad ), lambda Leo (Alterf), and omicron Leo (Subra).
Regulus, eta Leonis, and gamma Leonis, together with the fainter stars zeta Leo (Adhafera), mu Leo (Ras Elased Borealis), and epsilon Leo (Ras Elased Australis), make up the asterism known as the Sickle, representing the head and the mane of the lion.
The star Wolf 359, one of the nearest stars to Earth (7.7 light-years), is also in this constellation. Gliese 436, a faint star in Leo about 33 light years away from the Sun has one of the smallest extrasolar planets orbitting it.
The carbon star CW Leo (IRC +10216) is the brightest star in the night sky at the infrared N-band (10 ?m wavelength).

Leo in Latin means lion, which makes its symbol, looking like
either sitting or ready to pounce upon its prey.

H.A. Rey has suggested another way to connect the stars, which graphically shows a lion walking in place of it either sitting or being ready to pounce upon the prey.
As of 2002, the Sun appears in Leo constellation from August 10 to September 15. In tropical astrology, the Sun is considered to be in the sign Leo from July 24 to August 23, and in sidereal astrology, from August 16 to September 15. That is how these stars affect people born during this period and make the constellations their zodiac signs.
