Capricorn constellation in the zodiac is one of the 88 modern constellations bordered by Aquila, Sagittarius, Microscopium, Piscis Austrinus and Aquarius. It is pictorially depicted as a sea-goat, it being a mythical creature that is half goat and half fish.
The constellation is located in an area of sky called the Sea or Water where other water-related constellations are also located, namely Aquarius, Pisces and Eridanus. It is a very faint constellation brighter only than Cancer among the astrological constellations. Alpha Capricorni, Delta Capricorni and Omega Capricorni are the three brightest stars in the constellation forming vertices of a triangle like shape. It also has quite a few galaxies and clusters, Messier 30 being a massive globular cluster among them located 1 degree south of the galaxy group NGC 7103. The wide spiral galaxy NGC 6907 is another one of the constellation's harboring.
The named stars in the constellation are Algiedi, Prima Giedi, Secunda Giedi, Dabih, Dabih Major, Dabih Minor, Nashira, Deneb Algiedi, Yen, Chow, Al Shat and Yue.
On September 23, 1846 German astronomer Johann Galle discovered the planet Neptune in this constellation; and he could easily do so in September since the constellation is best visible in that month only.

Though Ptolemy's method of connecting the stars of the constellation has been taken as the most accepted one, H.A. Rey has suggested another interesting visualization as well graphically shaped as a goat in the sky.
As of 2002, the Sun appears in the Capricorn constellation from January 19 to February 15. In tropical astrology, it is there from December 22 to January 19, and in sidereal astrology, from January 15 to February 14.
