Mythology of Aries the Ram

Mythology of Aries the Ram comes from the ancient Greece, which states that the animal representing the first constellation of the zodiac was having the Golden Fleece that was always anxiously sought by Jason and the Argonauts.

Mercury had presented the ram to Nephele when her husband, the king Athamus of Boetia married Ino as his second wife.

Mythology of Aries the Ram

Ino being resentful to Nephele's children hatched a conspiracy, which would necessitate her son Phrixus to be offered for sacrifice by the king, his father, for their 'cooked up' escape from starvation at the time of famine.

The king - the father - agreed, but how would the mother be! She directed the magical ram to elope with Phrixus and Helle. The ram dashed to the east along the sky route, but unluckily Helle fell off into the sea at Hellespont. Still Phrixus was left safe and landed at Colchis, where he sacrificed the ram; and the Golden Fleece, that Jason and the Argonauts were always after, was presented to the king Aeetes by Phrixus himself!

Mythology of Aries the Ram

Phrixus married the king's daughter, but the fleece didn't remain with the king and was stolen by Jason very soon after.
