Aries Constellation in The Zodiac

Aries constellation falls in the zodiac between Pisces to its west and Taurus to its east. The name is Latin for ram, with its symbol representing the horns of a ram.

The constellation doesn’t have even a single bright star in it that could have made its spotting in the sky easy for the naked eye to see it clear, though two of them are much brighter than the rest two in the constellation. Still if you keep your patience persistently composed, you sure can locate them in the sky without any optical aid required.

  1. Look toward the east.

2.Locate the clustered stars of the Pleiades.

3. Locate the V-shaped companion cluster of the Hyades.

4.At the end of the V, you will find a reddish bright star named Aldebaron, which is the brightest star in the constellation of Taurus.

5. Now on an imaginary line joining Aldebaron with Pleiades, move about 25 degrees further – which is about two clenched fists at an arm’s length from the eye – and your eyes will have reached the two brightest stars of the constellation, which themselves are at a distance of two finger-widths at an arm’s length.

6.Further beyond the two, you will find a much dimmer star being the third in the constellation.

7. Now come back from this last dim star along the imaginary line midway between the Pleiades and the brightest star of the constellation, just spotted; and you will find another very dim star belonging to the constellation.

Thus you will have spotted all the four stars that make Aries constellation. From mid-April until mid-May the Sun is drifting under these stars and hence they are not visible during this period. That is how they affect people born during this period and make the constellations their zodiac signs.

The other deep sky objects in the constellation including the galaxies NGC 697 (northwest of beta Ari), NGC 772 (southeast of beta Ari), NGC 972 (in the constellation’s northern corner), and NGC 1156 (northwest of delta Ari) are not visible to the naked eye.
